  • Data Visualization GE: SpagoBI Open Source Suite

SpagoBI is the 100% open source suite for Business Intelligence and Big Data Analytics, realized and supported by Engineering Group's SpagoBI Labs. It supplies compelling products end embedded engines to empower all kind of users with full analytical capabilities to get insights on data and turn them into feasible knowledge for effective decision-making processes. It includes not only usual reporting and charting tools, but also innovative solutions for emerging domains, such as location intelligence, KPIs, real-time, mobile, big data, data mining, what-if and social listening. Its modular approach, scalable architecture and open standards ensure easy customization and the development of user-friendly solutions. Visit www.spagobi.org for more details.

This page is dedicated to all those users who have a reasonable knowledge of the ITs and are approaching the suite and its functionalities for the first time.

  • Quick start on how to use SpagoBI

To start with the creation of an analytical document using SpagoBI tools, the user may find helpful to follow the steps showed in this section.

We leave the user to learn about how to install the SpagoBI platform referring to the dedicated web page  http://spagobi.readthedocs.org/en/latest/admin/README/index.html

  • Worksheet Engine

SpagoBI Server provides the Worksheet engine, a tool that allows the end-user to build a base query using Qbe web interface and then design a set of sheets with charts and tables through an easy to use interface.

  • Birt Report Designer

BIRT technology platform is one of the most broadly employed data visualization and reporting technologies.

SpagoBI open source project embedded BIRT technology platform into its products. Precisely, SpagoBI Studio contains a visual report designer for creating BIRT Designs while SpagoBI Server contains the runtime engine for generating those designs that can be deployed to any Java environment.

  • Basics on the concept of Analytical Driver and LOV

SpagoBI Server allows the user to set parameters to any analytical document by means of analytical drivers and LOVs.

An analytical driver (AD) is an autonomous entity that models a business concept in order to use it as a discriminating criterion in the global data context, according to the different end-user roles.

LOV stands for List of Values. They represent the valid values for an analytical driver.
